CNA Program Course Schedule

Week 1: Introduction and Fundamentals
In the first week, students will start with an orientation to the program, learn about the role of a CNA, and get an overview of various healthcare settings. The week continues with basic nursing skills, understanding patient rights, and infection control. Students will also learn to measure vital signs, assist with personal hygiene and grooming, and practice mobility and positioning techniques. The week concludes with training on safety and emergency procedures, communication skills in healthcare, and cultural sensitivity in patient care.
Week 2: Basic Care and Comfort
The second week focuses on providing basic care and comfort to patients. Students will learn about nutrition and hydration, how to assist with meals, and monitor intake and output. The program then covers personal care tasks like bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, and skin care to prevent pressure ulcers. Training will also include addressing elimination needs, catheter care, and bowel and bladder training. The week ends with lessons on rest and sleep needs, end-of-life care, and providing emotional and spiritual support to patients.
Week 3: Clinical Skills and Lab Practice
The third week is dedicated to clinical skills and hands-on lab practice. Students will engage in practical sessions to reinforce their skills, starting with hands-on practice in measuring vital signs. This week is essential for building confidence and competence in the clinical skills necessary for a successful CNA career.

Program Requirements

To ensure all students are prepared for the rigorous training and responsibilities of a Certified Nursing Assistant, American Academy for HealthCare Studies (AAHS) requires applicants to be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and pass a criminal background check. Additionally, applicants must provide proof of immunizations and a a normal x-ray, negative TB test, and demonstrate proficiency in English. These requirements ensure that our students are well-prepared to succeed in the program and excel in their future healthcare careers.
